Grammar Monster

English is such a confusing language.  Have you ever wondered when it should be an apostrophe before the s or after, or when to use a colon, or semi colon. When to use fewer or less. I just stumbled upon a great site that teaches and tests you on your grammar skills. It's  called Grammar-Monster.com. I love that they work on a little bit of everything grammar related.

The site works on parts of speech, confused words (when to use affect vs. effect), Parts of Speech, Punctuation, and lists Grammatical Terms and Definitions.

You get to pick what you want to work on. There aren't any lessons you have to go through so you can get a refresher as you help your kids with homework, or set them down to get a review if they've forgotten what they learned. Each lesson starts by walking you through the grammar rules then gives you a chance to practice what you've learned.

After you practice what you learned you find out how well you did. I LOVE that its not just "You missed 3, read again and find out why you missed them." Most kids won't do that. Most adults won't do that. You can click on the questions you missed and it will tell you why what you chose is wrong.

You can also sign up for Grammar tips. The site is meant for older kids so it's not entertaining. It's meant to help you learn. This would be a great reference site for grades 3-12 and beyond.
